A pastoral prayer gives voice to the congregation before God. It can thank, confess, ask and entrust. Use these outlines and sample lines to prepare without sounding scripted.

A simple four-part shape

1. Adoration: Who God is.
2. Confession: Where we need mercy.
3. Thanksgiving: What we have received.
4. Intercession: Who and what we carry.

Sample pastoral prayer

Holy God, You are faithful in every generation. We quiet our hearts before You.

We confess that we are quick to worry and slow to trust. Forgive us, renew us, and turn our attention toward Your Word.

Thank You for the gift of this church family, for answered prayers we can see, and for grace that sustains us when we cannot see.

We pray for those who are sick, grieving, lonely or overwhelmed. Give comfort to the brokenhearted, wisdom to leaders, and protection for children and caregivers. Guide our community in justice and mercy. Strengthen missionaries, pastors and servants who labor in Your name.

Form us by Your Spirit as we listen to Scripture today. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
